The novel "Mort" from the "Death" cycle opens the series "Discworld," in which the main character is Death. However, this does not mean that the book is grim, as in Terry Pratchett's world, Death goes fishing, philosophizes, loves kittens and delicious dishes, dreams of vacation, and ultimately just does his job: delivering souls to the other side. Thoughts of relaxation prompt Death to choose a rural boy named Mort as his apprentice. Will the clumsy and not very skilled Mort manage the tasks on the other side of life, and will he be able to master the challenging profession of Death? Such an apprenticeship promises the boy career growth, an improved image, a broader perspective, and numerous business trips. However, Mort's compassion and romantic interests may not only hinder his work but also threaten the integrity of the universe.
